The organisation of the Jurisdiction

Still a young structure, the Jurisdiction has experienced a tremendous growth, since Workshops have sprung up all over the country, both in metropolitan France and overseas, and, notwithstanding the health crisis, its membership has increased by more than 10% per year, meeting a legitimate need of the Scottish Masons who are members of the only French Masonic Obedience recognised as regular by the international Masonic community.

A Rite in 33 degrees, 8 of which are subject to a mandatory ceremony

If the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite is composed of 33 degrees and if the first three (Apprentice, Fellow and Master) are managed by a symbolic Obedience (the French National Grand Lodge or, for foreign Brethren, the regular Obedience recognised by it), the thirty others are managed by the Jurisdiction, but only eight of them are obligatorily the subject of a reception ceremony (the others being most often conferred by communication). These are the following degrees:

  • 4° degree: Secret Master
  • 12° degree: Grand Master Architect
  • 14° degree: Grand Chosen of the Sacred Vault
  • 18° degree: Knight Rose Cross
  • 30° degree: Grand Chosen Knight Kadosh
  • 31° degree: Grand Inquisitor Inspector Commander
  • 32° degree: Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret
  • 33° degree: Sovereign Grand Inspector General

The organisation of the Jurisdiction

Unlike a Grand Lodge which has only one category of Lodge, the Brothers of the Jurisdiction work in different types of Bodies according to the degree they practice:

  • Lodge of Perfection: 4° to 14° degree
  • Chapter: from 15° to 18° degree
  • Areopagus: 19° to 30° degree
  • Tribunal: 31° degree
  • Consistory: 32° degree
  • Supreme Council: 33° degree
